PRESS RELEASE

Petit Family Foundation to Sponsor Prudence Crandall Center’s
3rd Annual “Silent No More” Auction and Reception
to Benefit Victims of Domestic Violence

New Britain, CT – Prudence Crandall Center is pleased to announce it will hold its 3rd Annual “Silent No More” Auction and Reception on Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Center’s new Rose Hill Campus in New Britain.  Prudence Crandall Center is the oldest domestic violence agency in Connecticut and each year serves more than 10,000 women, men and children whose lives have been affected by violence in their homes.

The Presenting Sponsor for this year’s event is the Petit Family Foundation. “We feel that our mission statements hope for the same end – helping and protecting those affected by violence. We shall be proud to stand with Prudence Crandall Center at this important event,” said Dr. William A. Petit, Jr., President Petit Family Foundation. The Petit Family Foundation honors the memories of Jennifer Hawke-Petit, Hayley Elizabeth Petit, and Michaela Rose Petit by continuing the kindness, idealism and activism that defined their lives. The Foundation's funds are given to support efforts to protect and help those affected by violence.

The event is being held at the Prudence Crandall Center’s new Rose Hill facility, scheduled to open in July 2007. The Rose Hill expansion project is among the first of its kind nationally; with programs specifically created to address the needs of domestic violence victims. The project will offer clients several options by providing both transitional living and long-term housing option while they deal with the immediate aftereffects of domestic violence, and will increase the agency’s flexibility to assist victims whose most urgent needs include safe and affordable housing.  The building itself is a former orphanage built in the 1920’s that sits on the largest undeveloped piece of property in the City of New Britain owned by the Daughters of Mary of the Immaculate Conception. The structure is now nearing the end of major renovations which included plumbing, heating, air conditioning refits, and alterations to accommodate handicapped individuals .

The community is invited to attend this celebration and see firsthand the new facility. The event provides an opportunity for community leaders and caring members of the public to help increase awareness of this issue, and to raise necessary funds to help end domestic violence in Connecticut. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the evening promises exquisite hors d’oeuvres, desserts, wine, light jazz and a silent auction.  Donated silent auction items include vacations, sports memorabilia, beautiful gift baskets, gym memberships, and assortment of gift certificates to fine establishments. A variety of sponsorship opportunities for the event are still available and donations of auction items will be accepted until June 26. Tickets for the event are $50.00 each and must be purchased in advance.

All proceeds will directly benefit the clients served by Prudence Crandall Center. Events such as this allow the agency to continue to offer free and confidential services that include a manned 24/7 crisis hotline, emergency shelter, transitional and long-term housing, counseling, support groups, children’s programs, advocacy, and community education.

"It promises to be a great evening full of fun, and at the same time will help support our life-saving programs," said Anthony Garro, Jr., Board President.
