Crisis Intervention
Our hotline is available 24 hours a day, and provides callers
with immediate access to Certified Battered Women's Counselors
who can provide crisis intervention, counseling, shelter services,
information and referrals.

Intervention Program
This program is available to women and men who have been,
or currently are victims of domestic violence. Services include
short-term individual counseling, information, referrals, and
advocacy.

Support Group Services
Weekly battered women's support groups are offered at our
New Britain and Bristol offices. These groups are designed
for women who are currently in abusive relationships or women
who were previously in abusive relationships. The purpose of
these groups is to empower women by giving them support and
information to live their lives free of violence.

We have numerous volunteer opportunities that require a wide

Prevention Education and Outreach
Our goal is to reduce, and ultimately eliminate, domestic
violence in our communities by providing prevention education
programs for children, teens and adults. Prevention programs
are available for schools, churches and community groups on
a variety of topics related to domestic violence. Training
programs for childcare providers, police medical personnel
and other professionals are also available.

Child Advocacy Program
Services are provided to children whose lives are affected
by domestic violence, including educational and recreational
activities, individual counseling, support groups, advocacy
and referrals. These services are available to sheltered and
non-sheltered children and are provided by the Child Advocate.

Information and Referrals
The Center maintains an extensive resource file with referral
information for housing, employment, education, mental health
and substance abuse treatment that is available to the clients
we serve.

Victim Advocate Program
The Victim Advocates provide victims of domestic violence
assistance with the civil and criminal court process, information
and referrals.

Mothercare
The Mothercare Program is specifically designed for clients
referred by the Department of Children and Families. The goal
of the program is to empower mothers and their children to
live lives free of violence. Mothercare offers support and
advocacy to women and children who have experienced domestic
violence. The program runs for 26 weeks and includes a weekly
support group and/or individual advocacy, intervention and
referrals for women and children. Groups are offered in New
Britain and Bristol. Transportation is provided.

Victim Advocate Law Enforcement - VALE
The VALE Program works with the Berlin Police
Department by providing immediate, onsite victim advocacy services.
The victim advocate also works with the community to enhance
the systems response to the needs of victims of domestic violence.
All services are designed to empower victims, enhance their
safety and value their right to self-determination.

Shelter Services
The Center provides emergency shelter for women and children
who are forced to flee their homes because of domestic violence.
Residents may stay in the shelter up to 2 months. During their
stay they have access to services including individual counseling,
support groups, advocacy, information and referrals to legal
services, housing services, and mental health/substance abuse
services.

Internship Opportunities
Internship positions are available for students working in
the fields of Women's Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Social
Work, Social Services, Human Services, or other related fields.
All interns are required to complete the 30 hour training program
to become Certified Battered Women's Counselors. Contact our
